Computer broken? Recover the story, then find the files.

Cloud can help a replacement device recognize your Packages, versions and last-known file locations. Recovery of actual files depends on a surviving copy on another device or in your own storage.

OrbiFabric Cloud is coming soon. This site is informational only; account creation, sign-in, trials, and subscriptions are not yet available.

Find the story. Find the file.
  1. 01Package and filenames
  2. 02Last recorded location
  3. 03A surviving real copy

A filename cannot recreate a lost file.

The family laptop will not start

The trip Package identifies the hotel bookings and insurance. Use that background as a checklist while finding the real copies in your storage or another device.

How you continue

  1. 01

Protect access to the old device

Review or revoke its Cloud connection. Also consider storage sessions and files already on the device.

  2. 02

    Connect the replacement

Use the correct account and complete the device’s access checks.

  3. 03

    Find the Package background

Read filenames, versions, notes and last-known locations to know what to recover.

  4. 04

    Retrieve surviving copies

Reconnect authorized storage or another device. Check each file before calling it recovered.

A recovery checklist, with honest limits.

If the only actual copy was lost, Cloud cannot recreate it from a filename.

If something gets in the way

The only copy is gone

Cloud cannot recreate a lost file from its name, version or Witness record. Recovery needs a surviving copy.

You can see the name but cannot open the file

Connect to the storage that holds the file and check your access. A filename is not a copy of the file.

The old device comes back

Check its current permissions. Revoking Cloud access did not remotely erase the old disk.

A few things you may be wondering

Is version history a backup?

It helps identify the right copy, but recovery still needs an actual surviving file.

Does removing a device wipe it?

No. Device removal affects access. Local data needs separate handling.
