Before trusting “verified”, know what it proves.

A successful check can show that a record matches the object being checked. It does not automatically prove the content is correct, the author is who they claim to be or a legal conclusion.

Verified does not mean everything is true.

Someone sends you a report and a Witness link

Open the supplied record, identify the version being checked and read what passed. Then review the actual document through the sender’s authorized file-sharing route.

How you continue

  1. 01

    Confirm the version

Check that the record refers to the Package or document you meant to receive.

  2. 02

    Read what passed

Read the file fingerprint, recorded time and signature results. A successful check only supports its stated comparison.

  3. 03

    Judge the document separately

Review the meaning, quality and source yourself. A match is not content approval.

A match has a useful, specific meaning.

This guide explains the result. Open the actual Witness link for a check; this page does not accept file uploads.

If something gets in the way

The version does not match

Check which version was handed over. A changed file can have a different record.

The record cannot be found

Check the link with the sender. An unavailable record is not a successful verification.

You need private details

A public link shows only the limited public record. Private records still require permission.

A few things you may be wondering

Does a matching record mean the content is correct?

No. It does not establish factual correctness, absolute authorship or legal validity. You still need to review the content and who supplied it.

Can the result give me the file?

No. Get the file from its holder through an authorized device or storage service.
