Why can the other device see the filename but still not open it?
Seeing the background and obtaining the actual file are different steps. Cloud carries Package information; Packtell needs access to the place that holds the file before it can open it.
OrbiFabric Cloud is coming soon. This site is informational only; account creation, sign-in, trials, and subscriptions are not yet available.
- 01Cloud: identifies what you need
- 02Your storage: holds the copy
- 03Packtell: gets and opens it
Follow the file’s own path.
The insurance document is listed but unavailable
The trip Package tells you which insurance document belongs and which version matters. Now check whether that file is on this device, another device or your chosen storage.
How you continue
- 01
Confirm the Package and version
Use the intended Package, not a similarly named file from another story.
- 02
Find the actual location
Look at the last known location and whether this device already has a copy.
- 03
Check storage and Family access
Membership and file permissions both matter. An authorized owner device may need to reconnect to update Family storage access.
- 04
Get and check the file
Let Packtell retrieve the intended copy and confirm it before opening or editing.
Background helps you find the file. It does not replace it.
This is the difference between syncing descriptions of files (metadata) and transferring the actual files. OrbiFabric Cloud handles the former.
If something gets in the way
You can see the name but cannot open the file
Connect to the storage that holds the file and check your access. A filename is not a copy of the file.
The only copy is gone
Cloud cannot recreate a lost file from its name, version or Witness record. Recovery needs a surviving copy.
The version is different
Check the intended version before overwriting anything. A different copy is not proof that Cloud changed the file.
A few things you may be wondering
Does Cloud get my actual files?
OrbiFabric Cloud has no capability to obtain your actual files.
Are file sync and backup the same thing?
No. Sync moves changes between copies. Recovery still depends on an appropriate surviving copy and a working restore path.
